PNG to ICO Converter
Turn an image into an ICO file with the sizes you choose. Your image stays on your device.
- Runs in your browser
- No sign-up
- No watermark
An ICO file holds one picture at several sizes, which is what Windows and browser tab icons expect. This tool resizes your image to each size you tick, from 16 by 16 up to 256 by 256 pixels, and packs them into a single .ico file. It works with PNG, JPG and WebP, and runs in your browser, so your image is not uploaded.
How to use PNG to ICO
- Tick the icon sizes you want. 16, 32 and 48 are selected to start.
- Choose how non-square images are handled: fit inside, or fill and crop.
- Choose your image, or drop it onto the box.
- Download the ICO file.
Frequently asked questions
Is my image uploaded?
No. The icon is built in your browser and your image never leaves your device.
Which sizes should I include for a favicon?
16, 32 and 48 pixels cover browser tabs and bookmarks. Add 256 pixels if the icon is also for a Windows app or shortcut.
Can I use a JPG or WebP instead of a PNG?
Yes. Any image your browser can open works, including PNG, JPG and WebP. JPG has no transparency, so its icon will have a solid background.
What if my image is not square?
Icons are square. Fit inside keeps the whole image and adds transparent space. Fill the square crops the edges. Square images are not changed.
Does the icon keep transparency?
Yes. Transparent areas in a PNG or WebP stay transparent. Each size is stored as a 32-bit PNG inside the ICO.
Will it work everywhere?
ICO files with PNG images inside are supported by current Windows versions and all current browsers. Very old software, such as Windows XP, may not read the 256-pixel size.
Is it free?
Yes. There is no account, no watermark and no daily limit.
