Base64 to Image decodes Base64 text into a picture you can preview and download. Paste either the plain Base64 string or a full data URI such as data:image/png;base64,... and the tool does the rest.

It does not trust the label in the data URI. It looks at the first bytes of the decoded file to find the real type (JPG, PNG, GIF, WebP, BMP, AVIF, ICO or SVG) and names the download to match. If the text is not valid Base64, you get a plain message saying what is wrong.

How to use Base64 to Image

  1. Paste the Base64 text or data URI into the box.
  2. Select Convert to image.
  3. Check the preview and the detected type and size.
  4. Select the Download button to save the file.

Frequently asked questions

Is my data uploaded?

No. The text is decoded in your browser and not sent to a server.

Do I need the data: prefix?

No. Both plain Base64 and a full data URI work. Line breaks and spaces in the pasted text are ignored.

How does it know the image type?

It reads the first bytes of the decoded file, which identify the format. If the data URI says PNG but the content is a JPG, the download is saved as a JPG.

Why do I get an error about a character?

Base64 only uses letters, digits, plus, slash and equals signs. Another character usually means extra text was copied, such as a quote or a trailing bracket.

What if it decodes but is not an image?

The tool tells you the data does not start like a known image. It may be a different kind of file, or Base64 of plain text.

Why does the preview not show?

The data may be cut off or damaged. A truncated JPG can still show part of the picture, but a broken file will not display.
