CSV to TSV Converter
Change a comma, semicolon or pipe separated file into tab separated values. Your file stays on your device.
- Runs in your browser
- No sign-up
- No watermark
TSV uses a tab between values instead of a comma, which makes it easy to paste into spreadsheets and to process with command line tools. This converter reads the CSV properly first, including quoted values with commas and line breaks, then writes it back with tabs.
Because TSV has no standard way to quote a tab, you choose what happens to tabs and line breaks inside a value. The conversion runs in your browser and the file is not uploaded.
How to use CSV to TSV
- Paste the CSV, or choose or drop a file.
- Leave the input delimiter on automatic, or choose it yourself.
- Choose how to treat tabs and line breaks inside values.
- Copy the TSV or download it as a .tsv file.
Frequently asked questions
Is my file uploaded?
No. It is converted in your browser and never sent anywhere.
What happens to a value that contains a tab or a line break?
By default they are replaced with a space so every record stays on one line. You can instead keep them and wrap that value in double quotes, which many programs, including Excel, understand.
Can it read a semicolon separated CSV?
Yes. Leave the input delimiter on automatic or choose semicolon. Comma, tab and pipe also work.
Are the quotes kept in the output?
No. Quotes that only protected commas are removed, because tab separated text does not need them. Values are written as they are, apart from the tab and line break rule above.
Does it keep accents and other languages?
Yes. Files are read as UTF-8. If a file is not valid UTF-8, it is read as Windows-1252 and you are told so.
