JSON to YAML Converter
Turn JSON into readable YAML for config files. Your data stays on your device.
- Runs in your browser
- No sign-up
- No watermark
Paste JSON or choose a .json file and get YAML back, with the indent you pick and optional alphabetical key order. Strings that need quotes, such as ones with a colon, are quoted for you. If the JSON has a mistake, the tool tells you the line and column.
The conversion runs in your browser with a small open source YAML library, so nothing is uploaded.
How to use JSON to YAML
- Paste your JSON, or choose or drop a .json file.
- Pick a 2 or 4 space indent, and tick Sort keys if you want them in order.
- Check the YAML in the output box.
- Copy it or download a .yaml file.
Frequently asked questions
Is my JSON uploaded?
No. It is converted in your browser and not sent to any server.
Will the YAML mean exactly the same thing?
Yes for ordinary data. Text that could be mistaken for a number, a boolean or null, such as "true" or "123" written as a string, is quoted so it stays a string.
Does it keep comments?
JSON has no comments, so there is nothing to keep. If you want comments in the YAML, add them after converting.
Can it convert YAML back to JSON?
Yes, use the YAML to JSON converter.
What if my JSON is invalid?
The tool shows the line and column of the first problem and what it expected, for example a trailing comma or a missing quote. Fix that and the result appears.
Are very long lines wrapped?
No. Long strings stay on one line, so the YAML is easy to compare with the original.
