Excel to CSV Converter
Save any sheet of an .xlsx workbook as CSV. Your workbook stays on your device.
- Runs in your browser
- No sign-up
- No watermark
Choose an .xlsx file, pick a sheet and download it as CSV. Dates are written as 2024-05-31, formulas give their last calculated value, and accents and other languages are kept. For a workbook with several sheets you can download one sheet or all of them together in a ZIP.
The workbook is opened in your browser and is not uploaded. Old binary .xls files are not supported: open them in Excel or LibreOffice and save as .xlsx first.
How to use Excel to CSV
- Choose an .xlsx file, or drop it onto the box.
- If there are several sheets, pick one from the Sheet list.
- Choose the delimiter and line endings.
- Download the CSV, or download all sheets as a ZIP.
Convert spreadsheets without uploading them
Workbooks often hold customer lists, finances or staff data. The file is opened and converted in your browser, and the CSV is created on your device, so the data is not copied to a server along the way.
Frequently asked questions
Is my workbook uploaded?
No. The .xlsx file is read in your browser and stays on your device.
Can it open old .xls files?
No. Only .xlsx (and .xlsm) workbooks are supported. If you drop an .xls file the tool says so. Open it in Excel or LibreOffice, choose Save As, pick Excel Workbook (.xlsx), and try again.
How are dates and numbers written?
Cells with a date format are written as 2024-05-31 or 2024-05-31 13:45:10. Numbers are written as their stored value, not as displayed, so a cell showing 25% is written as 0.25 and one showing $1,200.00 as 1200.
What about formulas?
The tool uses the value Excel last saved for the formula. It does not calculate anything. If a file was saved by a program that stores no results, those cells are empty.
Can I convert all sheets at once?
Yes. When the workbook has more than one sheet, a button saves every sheet as its own CSV file in one ZIP.
Why do accents look wrong in Excel after converting?
Excel may not assume UTF-8 for a CSV. Tick the byte order mark option before downloading to fix this.
Is a password-protected workbook supported?
No. Remove the password in Excel first, then save and convert the file.
