SRT to VTT Converter

Convert SRT subtitle files to WebVTT. Your file stays on your device.

  • Runs in your browser
  • No sign-up
  • No watermark

Web video players need WebVTT (.vtt) subtitles, while many tools export SubRip (.srt). This converter changes the commas in the timestamps to dots, adds the WEBVTT header and writes a file you can use with the HTML5 track element. You can also shift every time forward or back by a number of milliseconds. It all runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded.

How to use SRT to VTT

  1. Choose an .srt file, or paste its text into the box.
  2. Optionally enter a time shift in milliseconds.
  3. Check the result.
  4. Download the .vtt file or copy the text.

Frequently asked questions

Is my subtitle file uploaded?

No. The conversion runs in your browser and the file never leaves your device.

What changes between SRT and VTT?

VTT starts with a WEBVTT line and writes milliseconds after a dot instead of a comma. Cue numbers are optional in VTT, so they are dropped unless you choose to keep them.

How do I fix subtitles that appear too early or late?

Enter a time shift in milliseconds. Use 2000 to show subtitles 2 seconds later, or -2000 to show them 2 seconds earlier. Times never go below zero.

Does it handle files with a byte order mark or Windows line endings?

Yes. A BOM at the start of the file and CRLF line endings are handled. UTF-16 files with a BOM are read too.

Is styling or positioning kept?

Italic, bold and underline tags are kept. Font tags and position codes such as {\an8} are removed, because WebVTT does not use them.

What if some cues are skipped?

Blocks without a valid time line cannot be converted. The status line tells you how many were skipped so you can check the original.
