VTT to SRT Converter
Convert WebVTT subtitle files to SRT. Your file stays on your device.
- Runs in your browser
- No sign-up
- No watermark
Most desktop players and video editors expect SubRip (.srt) subtitles, while web video uses WebVTT (.vtt). This converter removes the WEBVTT header, notes and style blocks, numbers each cue, and writes timestamps in the SRT format with a comma before the milliseconds. You can also shift all times by a number of milliseconds. The work is done in your browser and the file is not uploaded.
How to use VTT to SRT
- Choose a .vtt file, or paste its text into the box.
- Optionally enter a time shift in milliseconds.
- Check the result.
- Download the .srt file or copy the text.
Frequently asked questions
Is my subtitle file uploaded?
No. The conversion runs in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
What is lost when converting VTT to SRT?
SRT has no support for cue settings such as position and alignment, regions, CSS styles or notes, so they are removed. Italic, bold and underline tags are kept.
What happens to speaker names and other tags?
Tags such as voice and class tags are removed and only the spoken text stays. The speaker name inside a voice tag is not added to the text.
Does it read VTT times that have no hours?
Yes. VTT times like 01:02.500 are read correctly and written as 00:01:02,500 in the SRT file.
How do I shift the timing?
Enter a number of milliseconds. Positive values show subtitles later, negative values show them earlier. Times never go below zero.
Does it handle a BOM and Windows line endings?
Yes. A byte order mark at the start of the file and CRLF line endings are handled.
