DOCX to Text reads a Word document and gives you its words as plain text, ready to copy or save as a .txt file. Paragraphs are separated by a blank line, list items start with a dash or a number, and table cells are separated by tabs. The file is processed in your browser and is not uploaded.
Only the main body is extracted. Headers, footers, text boxes, footnotes, comments and tracked-change markup are not included, and old .doc files are not supported.
How to use DOCX to Text
- Choose a .docx file, or drop it onto the box.

- Copy it, or download it as a .txt file.
Frequently asked questions
Is my document uploaded?
No. The text is extracted in your browser and the file never leaves your device.
Are tables kept?
Each table row becomes one line, with cells separated by tabs. That pastes cleanly into a spreadsheet.
What happens to lists?
Bulleted items start with a dash and numbered items start with a number. Nested items are indented.
Are headers, footers and comments included?
No. Only the main body of the document is read. Headers, footers, text boxes, footnotes and comments are left out.
Can it read an old .doc file?
No. Only .docx files work. Save the .doc file as .docx in Word or LibreOffice first.
Does it work with accents and non-Latin scripts?
Yes. The text is read as Unicode and saved as UTF-8, so accents, Arabic, Chinese and emoji are kept.
