Markdown to HTML Converter

Turn Markdown into HTML and see how it looks. Your text stays on your device.

  • Runs in your browser
  • No sign-up
  • No watermark

Paste Markdown or choose a .md file and get the HTML source, with a preview beside it. It follows GitHub Flavored Markdown by default, so tables, task lists and strikethrough work, and you can switch that off for plain Markdown. You can also turn single line breaks into line breaks, or wrap the result in a full HTML page.

The text is converted in your browser with the marked library and is not uploaded. The HTML is not sanitised, so if the Markdown comes from someone you do not trust, clean the HTML before putting it on a website.

How to use Markdown to HTML

  1. Paste your Markdown, or choose or drop a .md file.
  2. Choose the options: GitHub style, line breaks, full page.
  3. Check the HTML source and the preview.
  4. Copy the HTML or download an .html file.

Frequently asked questions

Is my Markdown uploaded?

No. It is converted in your browser and stays on your device.

Is the HTML safe to publish?

Not automatically. Markdown can contain raw HTML, including scripts, and the tool passes it through as written. Only publish the result if you wrote or trust the Markdown, or sanitise it first.

Is the preview safe?

The preview is shown in a sandboxed frame with scripts switched off, and it does not load outside images. Images that are embedded as data will show.

What does GitHub Flavored Markdown add?

Tables, task lists, strikethrough with two tildes, and automatic links for plain URLs. Turn it off for the original Markdown rules.

Why is a line break in my text ignored?

In standard Markdown a single line break does not start a new line. Tick the line breaks option, or end the line with two spaces, to get a break.

Does it add CSS or heading IDs?

No. You get plain HTML tags. The full page option adds the basic html, head and body structure but no styling.
